The Dressmakers Ball

I had an absolutely amazing time at The Dressmakers Ball. For those of you who don’t know, The Dressmakers Ball is a fantastic event in which we can don our finery and dance the night away with fellow sewists.

This year, having a lot more experience with dressmaking I decided to go all out on my outfit. There were times when I regretted this. Particularly when I was tearing my hair out trying to figure out what strange maths I’d done in order to fit the waistband. However the final result was well worth it. I could not have been happier with my outfit. I was a little nervous because the plunging neckline was more than a little revealing but with the help of some body tape and many friends keeping an eye out there were no embarrassing moments.

My outfit consisted of 3 patterns the Magnolia from Deer & Doe, the Posy Pants from Rebecca Page and I added splits to the trousers from named’s Breaking the Pattern.

The night was such an ego-boost I got so many compliments, my Instagram and Facebook account were blowing up with likes and comments. It was truly affirming getting such positive feedback from something I worked so hard on. In fact it’s part of the reason I’ve come back to this blog.

If you’ve read any of my previous posts you’ll know I struggle with mental health issues. The original motivation of this blog was to help me recognise those positive things in my life and celebrate my achievements. I have recently gone back into therapy for my eating disorder and things have been very very difficult, changing behaviours is exceptionally hard and brings back all sorts of negative feelings and low self-esteem. There are times when I feel utterly useless and find it impossible to change my behaviours. The sewing community is such a positive welcoming and friendly environment that only good can come from sharing my makes alonside my doubts and fears.

Thanks for reading, I hope you’ll be writing again soon watch this space….

My MMMay And Fun At The Handmade Fair

MMMay is going well so far! having fun pairing ready to wear and handmade. I had an amazing time at The Handmade Fair Yesterday. The amount of creativity and talent there was overwhelming.  My mum and I attended a Craftiosity Workshop. We made a really cute handbound notebook!

Day Two of MMMay: Enjoying the Sunshine on Tuesday morning and giving those plants a good water. I’m wearing A Dottie Angel Frock (Simplicity 1080) made from lightweight denim and Dashwood Gold Twist cotton, both from Crafty Sew & So. I made pockets from some scraps, I just love those cute little deer.

Day Three: Bus stop selfie. I’m heading to the shop for the first time since my chest infection. I’m ready for a day of prepping for The Handmade Fair. I’m rocking the double denim look with jeans and jacket. My handmade item is the burnout jersey tank. This is a great free pattern from Itch to Stitch. I live in tank tops through the summer and will be making a lot more! I got the fabric at a bargain price from a Girl Charlee Sale!

Day Four: Sorry about the blurry photo. On Thursday I headed to my sisters GCSE art exhibition in my full circle skirt and ready to wear embellished tank. I cut an impressive silhouette with skirt billowing in the wind. The Fabric is Rose and Hubble but I cannot remember where I got it from.  By Hand London have a fantastic calculator to create a circle skirt.

Day Five: The day of The Handmade Fair. Layers were the priority, top, cardi, jacket and scarf! Even though it wasn’t cold the wind was blasting and caused quite the chill. My top is Roxanne from Victory Patterns. The collar is super cute and easy to make.

I visited the girls from Crafty, as you can see I am very excited about my purchases, these adorable embroidery patterns are from Hawthorn Handmade.

Another indulgence was this cake in a jar from Cake Up North. As soon as I got home I got into my pj’s snuggled up on the sofa and grabbed a spoon. I’ll be posting again to show off my beautiful handbound notebook and other bounties.
